1970s Disco Theme : private birthday party

Back in the 70s it was certainly DISCO fever and re-creating this dance loving era inspired by 'Saturday Night Fever' for a 40th Birthday Party was just too much fun.

At Cloud 9 we are passionate about creating truly memorable experience for our clients and their guests through creative and beautiful events where attention to detail is key. It’s about celebrating life and sharing it with those that matter most. We were very excited to be a part of Gloria's Birthday celebration and the best thing; she didn't know what had been organised for her until she walked into the room. What a great surprise.!

STYLING AND THE DETAILS...

What a fabulous era to have been born in and transforming this large community hall into a 1970s inspired disco was a challenge that we were excited to take on.

Guests arrived to a red carpet with a smoke machine at the door and when they walked through were transported to a 1970s Disco.

Mirror balls on stands stood either end of the bar that had a mirrored front so as to reflect the lighting. Another mirrored ball was suspended from the rafters and sparkled on the checkered dance floor below.

Glow furniture was used to reflect the disco atmosphere that was evident in the 1977 movie Saturday Night Fever where the dance floor lit up. Silver tinsel curtains covered the walls and provided a backdrop behind the bar. Mini mirror balls in crystal cut holders sparkled on the cafe tables around the room.

Lighting was a huge part of the styling of this space and the feature was the kaleidoscope light that thew pattern changing lights onto the back of the stage. Perfect for setting the scene as the talented 4-piece band entertained.

D I S C O was spelled out in giant silver helium balloons behind the band and set-the scene for a fun-filled night.

There was a chill area with a shag rug and silver bean bags and a projector showing a variety of 1970s dance moves. (for anyone that needed inspiration).

MUSIC

Our client's partner was in a band and so they took to the stage and created the perfect atmosphere for the party. It was just AWESOME.!

ENTERTAINMENT

We enlisted the services of a professional dancer to perform the moves to Saturday Night Fever's hit "You Should be Dancing" and later the guests were involved as they were taught the moves to "The Bus Stop".!

Near the chill area was a vintage fabric backdrop where guests were able to have their photo taken by a professional photographer.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE

The menu was themed 1970s cocktail style. Catering included crudities and dips served in a carved out capsicum, canapés of ham and asparagus volovants, meatballs, quiche and devils on horseback were served. We also created a number of cabanossi and cheese hedgehogs complete with pickled onions and cellophane skewers; these were placed around the room for guests to help themselves.

The sweets table / candy bar was also themed and included musk sticks, fads, chocolate fondu and our clients family contributed by providing trifle and coconut jam slice.

Beverages catering included fruit punch served in a vintage punch bowl with glasses to match. Frozen cocktails were also served in glowing martini glasses. The beer was Victorian Bitter (VB) and Tooheys New served in cans of course.!
